| | About vehicle Breaking tradition
the conquest sedan was traditional in style except for headlights faired into the fenders. But a roadster, introduced later in the year and clearly aimed at a younger clientele, had cutdown doors, cutaway rear fender openings, a long rear end and tailfins. For the roadster, the conquests new 2.5-litre six-cylinder engine had a high-lift camshaft, aluminum cylinder head, two carburetors and a higher compression ratio to generate 100 hp and take this two-seater to 100 mph.
reconquests
for 1954 daimler introduced a plusher sedan called the century, with the same styling but the more powerful engine. Also new that year was a convertible whose top could be held in a coupe de ville position, covering the rear seat but
keeping the front open. A 1955 drophead coupe was a convertible that resembled the roadster but had a side-facing rear seat. The conquest was daimlers smallest car in the 1950s but, like the others, was intended primarily for an affluent clientele. |
