No excuses engines
introduced in 1924 at the first european grand prix race in lyon, france, the type 35 was an instant winner. Its eight-cylinder, two-liter, water-cooled powerplant, eventually super-charged in a 1.5-liter 35b version, was unlike almost any other of its time. Ettore bugattis expert machining had an amazing result: No gaskets separated the beautiful metal engine components. Each engine had to be handmade and assembled and perfect. The bugatti raced in the grueling 335 mile cross-country targa florio series around sicily with both men and women in the cockpit and dominated the course from 1925 to 1929.
