presidents had a color band on the sides, full crown fenders and (at first) a hood sculpture of the goddess atalanta. The 1928 models received studebakers first all-steel body. The 1929s were given a double-dropped frame for lower-slung and wider bodies. The 1931 models were longer and sleeker, with a narrower v-shaped radiator and oval instead of round headlights. Bodies ranged from roadsters and coupes to seven-passenger sedans, open touring cars and limousines.

four presidents were driven 30,000. Miles nonstop over 19 days at atlantic city in july 1928, breaking all existing stock-car speed and distance records. In 1929 a president scaled pikes
peak in a record 22 minutes, and two more won in class in the brooklands double twelve endurance race. Many indianapolis 500 racing cars used president engines between 1931 and 1937. The president was studebakers largest and most expensive series. Tloe 1932 models received a sloping windshield and synchromesh transmission. |
