| Steyr was a powerful combine producing armaments, airplane engines and bicycles before introducing its first automobile in 1920. The company merged with austro-daimler-puch in 1934. All-independent suspension
ferdinand porsche worked at steyr in 1920 and rejoined the company as chief engineer in 1929. He designed a 2.1-litre six-cylinder model that became the basis of steyrs principal models of the 1930s. In 1936 steyr presented the 120, which benefited from a new chassis with independent front suspension. The engine was moved farther in front, and the radiator received an inclined grille. For the successor 220, the engine was expanded to almost 2.3 litres. All-wheel independent suspension was adopted, with swing axles.

with jensen, which displayed a steyr-engined prototype at the 1938 london motor show. Plans for further collaboration were cut short by nazi germanys annexation of austria in 1938.
