| | About vehicle A honda exclusive
after having designed the chassis of most brabham racing cars, ron austin lewis tauranac, an australian, struck out on his own as an automaker. He adopted for the marques name an acronym composed of his initials. Tauranacs reputation was so great that honda decided to allow rait exclusive use in 1981 of its powerful, although fuel-thirsty, v6 engine. With four overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder, this two-litre ra 260e engine had maximum output of 330 hp 30 more than in 1980.
hard-fought races
in spite of the honda engine and a well-balanced ground-effect monocoque, the 1981 season was no walkover for rait. Geoff lees was the top formula two driver, but his teammate, mike thackwell, finished only sixth in the standings. At one time or another eight different
drivers, five chassis marques, four engines and four tires had a share in the winners circle. Even lees didnt do well enough to win a promotion to formula one. Ron tauranacs rait rh6 captured the 1981 european trophy, given annually to the best racing car in formula two competition |
