The first pontiacs to emerge from the factory after world war ii were essentially the 1942 models that were discontinued soon after american entiy into the war mandated a conversion to military production. There were only two pontiac series in 1946: The 122-in.-wheelbase streamliners and 119-in. Torpedos.

About vehicle
Six models torpedos shared the general motors a-body with chevrolets, the buick special and the oldsmobile 76. The lineup consisted of pontiacs only convertible, two- and four-door sedans, and three coupes one seating three and two seating five. Of the latter, one was called a sedan coupe and the other a sports coupe. All these models were offered with the choice of a side-valve six-or eight-cylinder engines. Pontiac claimed the engines were good for 100,000 miles without major repairs. moldings and streaks all 1946 and 1947 pontiacs had wraparound bumpers, hood streaks and moldings that ran along the sides of the fenders, but only torpedos had moldings on top of the front fenders. The full-width pontiac grille had six horizontal bars for 1946 and four for 1947. Convertibles came with tops in black or white.
