| | About vehicle Choice of two engines
built on a 122-in. Wheelbase, streamliners shared the general motors b-body with some cadillacs, buicks and oldsmobiles. They were offered with either a side-valve six- or eight-cylinder engine. The clutch, manifolding, muffler and cooling system underwent major revision for 1948, the year automatic transmission became an option. All the 1948s except the station wagons were a half-ft. Shorter than before.
three years three grills
although the streamliner retained its prewar body panels, there were some style changes. The
1946 full-width grille had six horizontal bars, the
1947 had four and the 1948 had a crosshatched
look with nine vertical bars behind the horizontal
ones. For 1948 there were round taillights.
deluxe exterior trim featured front-fender
spears, stainless-steel rear gravel guards and chrome-plated wheel discs except on the station wagons. The deluxe interior included two-tone trim. The 1948 model year was the next to last for pontiacs woody station wagons, which belonged to the streamliner series. |
