| While ford was introducing its acclaimed mustang in 1964, plymouth launched its own pony car, a fastback hardtop coupe called the barracuda. car and driver hailed the restyled 1967 barracuda for tautness of line and an integrity of design matched by few american cars of any vintage. it had a divided crosshatch-mesh grille and a concave rear deck panel. For 1968 this deck received blackout treatment, the taillights were slightly changed and the grille received vertical bars.

the standard barracuda engines were a six-cylinder and a v8 that grew from 273 cu. In. For 1967 to 318 for 1968-69. Formula s packages, which applied to several engine options, included four-speed manual transmission, heavy-duty clutch, suspension and brakes, red- or white-striped wide oval tires, dual exhausts and sill moldings. The flashy 1969 cuda package,
which centered on a 340-cu.-in. V8, also included hood scoops, a blacked-out grille and black lower-body stripes. Formula s performance packages turned the 1967-69 plymouth barracuda into a muscle car. This 1968 fastback hardtop carries an optional340-cu.-in,, 275hp v8 engine. |
