| | About vehicle Bright and lively
when introduced, the mayfair had the chrome-tooth grille, pelican hood ornament and 327-cu.-in. Eight-cylinder engine of senior packards but the shorter 122-in. Wheelbase, taillights and trim of the junior models. A chrome strip ran along the front fenders and doors, and there were bottle-opener dummy vents on the rear fenders. Most mayfairs were in bright colors, mostly two-toned. The interior sported wool carpeting and an upholstery choice of nylon, leather or both in one of six color combinations that echoed the body paint.
performance: Excellent
with a relatively big engine and a small size, the mayfair provided excellent performance and readability. In addition, this hardtop was further enlivened for 1953 by extending the metal side strips to full length and adding chrome fins over
the taillights. The grille was now toothless. Options for 1953 included air conditioning and power brakes, steering, windows and front seat. Tlois packard mayfair was a lively looking hardtop coupe, but it was unable to find a secure niche in the marketplace. A 1951 model is shown here. |
