the 4-4-2 was an option package for the cutlass series (originally the f-85cutlass series) that got its name from its four-barrel-carburetor v8 engine, four-speed manual transmission and dual exhaust. For 1965 this package bought a bigger v8 engine, choice of three transmissions, fat tires, front and rear stabilizers, special trim and heavy-duty wheels, shock absorbers, springs, rear axle, driveshaft, engine mounts, steering and frame all for only about $250 more than the base cutlass deluxe.
distinctive look
originally offered as a coupe or convertible, the cutlass 4-4-2 package came also as a hardtop for 1966, when it was given its own distinctive taillights and grille as well as recessed front fender scoops. Optional triple carburetors (1966 only) boosted the 400-cu.-in. Engine to 360 hp. For 1967, the front fenders scoops were dropped, but functional twin hood louvers were
added. Production reached a peak of 33,607 that year. This 1964 cutlass coupe came equipped with a 4-4-2 optional performance package. In 1968, the 4-4-2 became a separate series |
