| | About vehicle Revolutionary design
after the war, british family cars were generally dull updates of prewar designs. But from 1944, the unorthodox issigonis had been sketching out his vision of a postwar popular car. When the morris minor was unveiled in 1948, it was a revelation to the car-buying public, even though cost considerations had prevented issigonis from powering his new design with the planned flat-four engine and front-wheel drive.
the modern mini
instead, the minor had to make do with the old flat-head morris series e engine and rear-wheel drive. But its well-proportioned monocoque bodywork, rack-and-pinion steering and torsion-bar independent front suspension were well ahead of their time and tided the car over until a more modern overhead-valve power unit became available in 1952. The minor was produced until the the end of 1970 almost 32 years after its launch and thousands are still running today. Early morris minors had their headlights in the grille, but morris had lo change the design to a more conventional configuration to meet american regulations. |
