| | About vehicle Export success
out of the 10,000 mg tc midgets built after the war, 9,000 went to the United States. In 1949, mg unveiled the td midget. The bodywork was little changed from the thirties-style tc, but it had independent front coil-spring suspension and rack-and-pinion steering both big changes. English enthusiasts, however, looked askance at such features as the easy-clean disc wheels; Only 250 tds were sold in britain (where new cars were in woefully short supply thanks to the socialist governments export or perish policies).
breaking sales records
however, there were 10,000 orders from the United States, and the td was to break all mgs
sales records, with total production of almost 30,000 in four years. The tf which followed was scarcely more modern in appearance and it was left to the mga of 1955 to introduce aerodynamic bodywork along with a myriad of mechanical alterations. Described as a popular sporting two-seater of sturdy build, the mg midget series td was not lacking in charm. |
