| | About vehicle The mg midgets
in 1934, mg introduced the pa midget to replace the j series of midgets, which had been in production since 1932. The new car was replacing a midget that, in supercharged form, had been the first 750cc car in the world to exceed 100 mph. The pa was available as an open 2 or 4-seater, or with the elegant new fastback airline coupe body. All pas featured a new single-overhead-camshaft, 4-cylinder 847cc engine, which used a 3-main-bearing crankshaft instead of the 2-bearing unit which had been the principal weakness of the j midgets. The willing 36hp engine was coupled to a 4-speed . Transmission and mounted in a ladder frame equipped with front and rear beam axles and cable-operated drum brakes.
the high cost of airline travel
while the open 2-seat pa had cost a modest £222 (about $1,110), mgs gt precursor sold for
£290 (in the range of si,450), making this lovely and unusual car one of the most exclusive mgs ever produced. The airline coupe was descended from a car that had proved itself in competition, winning the brooklands double-twelve and the ulster trophy |
