About vehicle
The biggest mercurys the 1959 models were the biggest mercurys ever and included montereys 218 in. Long. Mercurys also had more window area than any other car. This model year has been called the high point in baroque automobile styling, and mercury lived up to the standard with sculptured sides and a juke-box rear featuring wedge-shaped taillights. The standard monterey v8 engine was downgraded to 312 cu. In., although bigger ones were optional. cleaner look the i960 style was more subdued, with only a chrome strip on the sides. The honeycomb grille was replaced by an electric-shaver style, and the quad headlights, formerly above the grille in pairs, were separated and integrated into the grille. The taillights were now tall vertical ones below flared fins.
The sculptured sides and chrome strips and ribbed panels of the 1959 mercury bestow reverse snob appeal on this busy model.
