Mercedes-benz Wo - 1953-1962 |

| | About vehicle Roomy, comfortable sedan
although built on a wheelbase 8 in. Shorter than that of the 170, which was the first post-world war ii mercedes sedan, the 180 was the same length, had 40 percent more window area and was not only roomier and more comfortable but cheaper to operate. The traditional upright mercedes grille was angled back slightly. This new model inherited its predecessors four-cylinder engine, but it was expanded in 1957.
popular diesel version
the 180d was identical to the 180 in body and chassis but it was equipped with a similar-sized diesel engine, which was expanded in 1961 to two litres. Despite its reduced power and higher price, this version sold better than the gasoline-powered model, probably because of better fuel
economy. Mercedes 180ds took the first three places in the special diesel class of the 1955 mille miglia. The mercedes-benz 180 was a sedan with practical and economical monocoque construction. |
