| | About vehicle Short-lived hybrid
announced in 1974, the quattroporte went into production late because of industrial disputes. This was during the period when citroen held a majority of the shares in maserati, but the new quattroporte only lasted as long as the troubled relationship between paris and modena. As soon as maserati regained its independence under alejandro de tomaso, the hybrid v6 bit the dust. Ultimately, only five of the v6 cars were built.
the quattroporte v8
not long after, in 1978, a v8 version of the quattroporte ii, with conventional suspension replacing the hydropneumatic system from the sm, was announced. The coachwork was new, with an elegant simplicity of line and a radiator grille resembling that of a mercedes. This version
known currently in europe as the royale and simply as quattroporte in the United States continues to be produced. The ultimate incarnation of the older quattroporte, the maserati royale is still powered by the classic maserati double-overhead-cam engine descended from the firms racing engine of the fifties. |
