the angular kyalami body, characterized by sharp, dean lines, was designed by frua of turin and first exhibited at the 1976 turin motor show. Taller than a typical maserati, it was a steel moncoque with round quad headlights and a rectangular grille. The all-independeht coil-spring suspension was the same as that of the longchamp.
choice of two v8s
the first 100 kyalamis were furnished with a four-overhead-cam, 4.1-litre maserati v8 engine first created in 1964. A bigger 4.9-litre maserati v8, used in the bora and khamsin, became available in 1978 as an option. Import restrictions kept the kyalami from being marketed in the United States. Total production, including
righthand-drive models for great britain, was only 150. The speedy kyalami coupe was the first maserati model after the companys takeover by alejandro de tomaso |
