| | About vehicle First true monoplace maserati
the 8cm was maseratis first one-seat racing car with the driver in the center. In previous maseratis the driver was seated to the right of the propellor shaft. The 8cm bore the usual maserati sloping radiator. After a slow start in which it fared poorly against alfa romeos, the 8cm obtained excellent results, winning the ciano cup and the belgian and nice grand prix with tazio giorgio nuvolari at the wheel.
still racing
in 1934 maserati 8cms won the grand prix of dieppe, donington park and south africa. Nuvolari, philippe etancelin and whitney straight all won races. The 8cm was then outclassed by newer alfa romeo and mercedes-benz cars but continued to race in minor events until world
war ii. Of the 17 built, a few continue to run in historic-car races Raced by philippe etancelin, this 1933 maserati 8cm is a prime example of the narrow version, as opposed to a wider-bodied one. |
