Classic coachwork
coachwork was by touring, in a design of classical simplicity. It was made from light alloy, using the famous superleggera construction methods that were the hallmark of the famous milanese carrozzeria. The twin-ignition, straight-six of the maserati 3500 gt was directly descended from the companys competition engines and was tamed and civilized by maseratis brilliant chief engineer, alfieri.
immediate success
the new car was an immediate success with both the press and customers it added a dimension to maseratis production. In 1961, the touring coupe was joined by a cabriolet version, built by vignale of turin. Just 3,617 examples of the maserati 3500 gt were built before production ended in 1964. Ultimately, the model
was succeeded by the mistrale.
