Some lotus racing cars were advanced enough in technique to be capable of ainning for several years without major modification, but the 69 had only a brief period of glory in formula two competition. And even this accomplishment was due more to the talent of its drivers than to the qualities of the model.

About vehicle
Nine f2 wins known as the king of f2, jochen rindt created his own racing stable to field the new lotus 69 in 1970. Actually there was nothing original about the car, which was an evolution of the 59, but with the central part of the multitubular chassis replaced and a new wedge-nosed bodyshell. Rindt won 4 of the 10 races he contested in the 20-event competition and finished third in the championship standings. The next year emerson fittipaldi, driving a slightly modified lotus 69c, won five f2 races. minor-league results lotus 69s also had success at lower levels of competition in 1971. Driving a car with a novamotor-modified engine and a spaceframe design from nose to tail, dave walker won 25 times in 32 formula three starts. Jacques couture, driving a 69b in american and canadian formula b, won races at elkhart and st. Jovite. A lotus 69f with a chisel nose and narrow wheels won the formula ford championship.
The lotus 69 could be tough to beat in f2 competition, but only when drivers of the caliber of jochen rindt and emerson fittipaldi were at the controls.
