the ss one marked the point at which lyons ceased to be merely a builder of special bodies on other chassis and became a car manufacturer in his own right. Though the engine of the ss one was supplied by the standard motor company, the chassis was unique to the marque. When the model was introduced in 1931, it was advertised as long...low...and very fast!
inexpensive impetus
its hood took up half its length, but much of that was strictly for show. Lyons brilliant styling
made the car look as though it cost three or four times as much as it did, and the ss one found a ready clientele over 4,000 were sold in five years, enabling the introduction of a new jaguar saloon at the 1935 london motor show, The ss one coupe was a late addition to the line. Introduced in 1935, only a few hundred were built. |
