Making their own engines
beginning in 1945, jaguar took over the machinery that standard had used to build their 2.5 and 3-5-litre power units. However, their smaller 1.5-litre, four-cylinder engine was still built by standard. Unusual in an era when most cars came in one color black jaguar boss william lyons gave the customer a choice of seven shades. Despite their high style, jaguars were competitively priced.
value for money
that value-for-money image was achieved quite simply: There was nothing adventurous about the mechanical specifications, and the rod-operated brakes were the order of the day. These prewar designs filled the gap until jaguar introduced the new mk v sedan in 1948, alongside the immortal
xk120 sports car, powered by the all-new, twin-cam xk engine conceived during the war.
