| | About vehicle Diverse influences
in 1909, after a short association with another french firm, lorraine-dietrich, isotta-fraschini diversified into related technologies, producing trucks, locomotives, marine motors and airplane engines. Isottas chief engineer, guistino cattaneo, was permitted to study closely the various engine designs that came with diversification, applying what he learned to the manufacture of sports cars.
before the war
announced as a 100 to 120hp vehicle, the km4 powered by a massive, 10.6-liter engine was offered with torpedo or roadster bodies and a wide choice choice of different radiator shapes. Despite an ambitious design strategy, however, the declining political climate in europe before
wwi curtailed isottas production, and only fifty examples of the huge km4 ever hit the road. The isotta-fraschini km4 was one of the most powerful cars of its era. With a chassis called shrapnel. this km4 could be seen terrorizing italian roads during the years before wwi. |
