About vehicle
The golden mean the firms mainstay in the twenties was the 2.4-litre am, which was redesignated as the am2 in 1926 when overhead valves were added. The am2 was a car that justified its slogan le juste milieu (the golden mean). Its price placed it exactly between the inexpensive citroen and the luxurious hispano-suiza.. Am2 reliability was legendary; The car could cruise at a steady 60 mph as long as the road allowed. conservative style its worthy qualities were so plentiful that the am2s devoted clientele could forgive its rather straight-laced styling and uninspired handling. The am2 was a sound base on which hotchkiss could create a sports model the 80mph am bis, which possessed an engine bored out to 3.0 litres and a 70hp powrer rating. In 1929, the am2 was supplanted by the new am80 six-cylinder, but the durable french favorite soldiered on under the type 412 designation until 1934.
Hotchkiss built more than 20,000 examples of the am series. Pictured here is the longchamp fabric saloon.
