| | About vehicle V12 behemoth
under the third reich, horch became the marque for second-rank nazi officials who didnt rate a mercedes. Almost all its cars of the 1930s were eight-cylinder models, but the 670, equipped with a six-litre vi2 engine, challenged such behemoths as the mercedes grosser and maybach zepellin. Outside coachbuilders provided bodies for the 136-in.-wheelbase convertibles and l48-in.-wheelbase limousines.
quiet comfort
in spite of its large engine, the 670 was too heavy for good performance. Its emphasis was, instead, on elegance and comfort. Much effort was directed to making this yacht as silent as possible. The engine was separate from the chassis and supported on oil-filled hydraulic
dampers to suppress vibration, and the driver would lubricate it with a hand pump before
starting. This convertible is one of only four remaining examples of the huge three-ton horch 670. |
