| | About vehicle A shortage of clients
in 1930, hispano-suiza took over the ballot company and built the junior a 4.6-litre model with a ballot chassis from 1931; 1930 also saw the introduction of the majestic 9-4-litre vi2 type 6b. The small junior and other hispano cars had difficulty finding clients (though the vi2, with the eventual sales of 110 cars in 9-4 and 11.3-litre versions, was a runaway success compared with its contemporary, the bugatti royale).
victim of an arms race
in deference to his marketing division, birkigt designed a five-litre, straight-six version of the v12 the k6, first shown at the 1934 paris salon. The k6 fulfilled its aim as a model that would appeal to hispano enthusiasts who would have been put off by the price of the vi2 and
found 204 ready customers. It was a fitting end to hispanos history as a car maker. From 1938, the arms race kept hispano-suiza fully occupied. The k6 was the last new model that hispano-suiza launched in france. Not the greatest hispano ever, it was still a handsome thoroughbred. |
