| | About vehicle twin-boom nose
the grid wras commissioned by british auto buff ian dawson on behalf of former team lotus mechanics, but the principal sponsor was plaza, a texas financial company. Former lotus engineer geoff aldridge designed a polyester body with a distinctive twin-boom nose over a tubular chassis. The engine was a ford-cosworth 3.9-litre v8 that proved to be unreliable. The grid saw only limited action in 1982. Despite roadholding problems in the le mans trials it qualified in 17th place, but a piston rupture took it out of the race after the first hour. Its best 1982 finish was 10th place at brands hatch in october.
fourth at atlanta
the grid returned to le mans the following year with a modified body and a new driving team, but the engine broke down in the sixth hour. The grid ran on the 1984 imsa circuit with a ford-cosworth dfl 3-3-litre v8 engine. In its best
showing, the grid finished fourth in the road atlanta 500 kilometer,,with tom sneva and skeeter mckitterick at the wheel. The grid, or grid-plaza, s-l failed to make much of a splash in three seasons of prototype racing. |
