Bigger is better
ford started with a low-slung, lola gt body and added a 289-cubic-inch v8, the same size engine found in the mustang. Later, ford substituted an even bigger engine in the gt 40 mk ii, a 427-cubic-inch monster which, like the 289, had four weber or holly precision carburetors.
simple pleasures
inside the gt 40, drivers faced a spartan cockpit. The midmount engine squeezed them between the wheel and the gearshift and pushed them down onto the ventilated vinyl seat covers. Fortunately, the covers were specially designed for comfort on long rides. It paid off.
