| | About vehicle Car of the year
the 1986 taurus, named car of the year by motor trend magazine, was offered in four series: L, gl, lx and mt5, a sporty version. All were available as sedans or wagons and came with a 153-cu.-in. Fuel-injected hsc four-cylinder engine or an optional 183-cu.-in. V6. The base taurus came standard with polycarbonate rust¬proof bumpers and power steering and brakes, and the lx model came with air conditioning, tilt steering and power windows and locks. The cars reception was phenomenal, and in 1987 sales skyrocketed to more than 374,000.
an evolutionary car
over the years, many evolutionaiy changes have been made to the taurus. In 1990, for example, anti-lock brakes were added as an option, and a drivers-side airbag became standard. By 1991, most tauruses sported the 182-cu.-in., l40hp v6. For 1992, the interior was made over, and for 1993, the lx was given rear disc brakes. But
despite the numerous changes over the years, and the availability of a great variety of engines, the taurus remains basically the same as it was in 1986, with one exception it is now the best selling car in the United States. A 1986 taurus lx is shown here. The following year. Largely because of the overwhelming success of the taurus. Font outsold general motors. |
