Small, medium or large fiat had an automobile from the top to the bottom end of the spectrum during the 1920s. Among the models that it presented during the last years of prosperity before the great depression was the 520, which promised a degree of luxury at an affordable price for a middle-class clientele. With 20,996 produced over only two years, this model was a substantial success.

First lefthand-drive fiat traditional in mechanics, the fiat 520 had fourwheel mechanical brakes and semi-elliptic leaf-spring suspension over live (power-transmitting) axles, both front and rear, coupled to friction dampers. Its coil ignition was inspired by american cars. The automobiles side-valve 2.2-litre, 46hp six-cylinder engine was new. This was the first fiat with standard lefthand drive instead of the steering wheel on the right. even a taxi the 520, equipped with artillery wheels, was offered as a two-seater or tourer, coupe, sedan or limousine. The coupes and sedans were available with either a fixed or detachable top. All these bodystyles had a high-quality finish. fiat also made a 520t taxi with a smaller-bore six-cylinder engine
